|A 5 Member Delegation from Taiwan led by Mr. Wen-Chyi Ong, Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) met senior officials of WBIDC to discuss trade and investment opportunities in West Bengal. MD, WBIDC briefed them about West Bengal’s strengths in sectors like petrochemicals, iron & steel, infrastructure, engineering goods, leather, food processing, gems & jewellery. MD invited investment by Taiwanese companies in machine tools, polysilicon, chip production, hardware etc. He further said that West Bengal could also benefit from Taiwan's experience in telecommunication, hardware, semi conductor devices, consumer electronics.
Mr. Wen-Chyi Ong, Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) said that they planned to set up a trade promotion office in Kolkata by early 2011 and were keen on exploring opportunities in West Bengal. He added that there is immense scope to increase bilateral trade and investment flows. He mentioned top Taiwanese brands which include Foxconn, Asus, Garmin, CEC, D-link, Acer, etc are already in India. He mentioned that the model of Taiwanese investment is focussed on employment and that the top 3 companies like Apache, Foxconn, Feng Tay have created over 16,000 local jobs.
